i am going to file a formal complaint with HR here. They sit me down for an
administrative session this monday. I am quite surprised at some of
the accusations my manager was trying to dump it on me. I am not going to
file it right away, since we are so short of hands. I'll wait till Virginia
comes back from her vacation.

btw, they hired another guy for UNIX administration. I have reason to
suspect that it's one of Dan's former acquitance as i overheard him
talking over the phone.

don't tell anyone here yet. if i have to leave, i won't leave without
making people feel uneasy of what they've tried to trash my style.

This is a formal complaint against a management philosophy and a tendency to
foster crooked character among government employees. After much
deliberation, i've realized the root cause of my unhappiness in professional
and personal development under such management style for the last year or so.

In a small working group, there are many personalities at play. There is
one kind of personality, 'detail oriented' as one person puts it but
i call it by its rightful name 'only do what he was told' kind of
subservient person. In indian government, in Chinese governement, in
Italian government, this may be considered a virtue of highest caliber,
but I sure hope not in American government at all level. 'Only do what he was
told' is a subhuman trait. No matter where, virtue or vice, it will be
replaced by ever more powerful and sophisticated machine programmming
sooner or later.

If i wish it to be sooner, i shall excuse myself from environment that
promotes 'only do what he was told' personality and discourage in every way
those who only wish to 'do what is necessary and do it in different ways for
different good reasons'. If i wish it to be later, i will stay and call
vice by its rightful name so that virtue will shine through without even
the need of ever having to name it.

Closing my case with T.S.Eliot's Ash Wednesday:
